Three Flying Cars, Eight Pioneering Pilots and a Grand Champion Crowned at the Great American Electric Air Race
SPRINGFIELD, OH, UNITED STATES, October 26, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Flying cars are no longer just a futuristic dream. They’re racing across American skies! On October 17, eight pioneering pilots took to the air at Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport for the Great American Electric Air Race, thrilling spectators with a full day of electric flying car races, precision landings, high-speed challenges and aerial exhibitions. Three Pivotal BlackFly vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) flying cars dominated the skies, rotating continuously between racing, recharging and demonstration flights. Rarely did five minutes pass without a flying car overhead, giving families, children and aviation enthusiasts a spectacular look at the emerging world of personal electric flight.
Test flights began at sunrise, and by the time the crowds arrived, the competition was already underway. The day’s three challenges tested the precision, speed and teamwork of eight pilots helping pioneer a new era of flying car technology.
FLYING CAR RACES PUT PILOTS TO THE TEST
The Bull’s Eye Bash kicked off the flying car competition with a precision landing challenge. All eight pilots maneuvered their aircraft toward a giant bullseye, attempting to land as close as possible to its center. Brandon Goff took the victory with a remarkable landing just 18 inches from dead center, proving that flying car precision is every bit as exciting as flying car speed.
Next came the Circuit Dash, a race against the clock that sent pilots accelerating from takeoff, around a distant grain silo and back to the finish. Tim Lum, one of the world’s most experienced eVTOL pilots, claimed the championship, demonstrating the skill that comes from more than 1,000 flights in electric aircraft.
But Lum’s victory medal wasn’t entirely safe.
In a hilarious bit of unscheduled competition, Heather Chirtea, the nation’s first female flying car pilot and owner, orchestrated a playful, top-secret operation to steal away his medal. The good-natured coup brought laughter to the festivities and proved that even the nation’s pioneering flying car pilots enjoy a little friendly rivalry.
The final race, the Milk Run, brought teamwork into the sky. Four teams of flying car pilots competed in a two-leg relay, coordinating their flights in a race against the clock. Quinn Reece and James Robinson, a team of paramedics, emerged victorious, earning the Milk Run championship and proving that their teamwork extends well beyond emergency medicine.
GRAND CHAMPION: DAVE COOK TAKES THE CROWN
When the final scores were tallied, one pilot had delivered an extraordinary performance across all three competitions. Dave Cook was crowned Grand Champion of the Great American Electric Air Race, finishing among the top three pilots in every event and securing a decisive overall victory.
A former championship motorcycle racer, adrenaline junkie and accomplished commercial pilot with more than 9,000 flight hours, Cook knows a thing or two about speed, precision and pushing the limits of performance. Now he’s taking that competitive spirit into an entirely new frontier: flying car racing.
While individual victories showcased exceptional skills, Cook’s consistency across all three events proved he was the pilot to beat.
FLYING CARS CAPTURE THE IMAGINATION OF A NEW GENERATION
For many families, it was their first opportunity to witness a flying car in action. For the children watching from below, it was a glimpse of an extraordinary future that is already becoming reality.
“When kids look up at the sky today, they don’t have to dream about flying cars anymore. They’re real. They’re flying.” said Heather Chirtea, race director. “The future of flight isn’t something we’re waiting for. It’s happening right over our heads.”
The excitement extended well beyond the flying car races. Antique airplanes, helicopter rides, a bouncy house, photo booth and food trucks served aviation enthusiasts and families for an unforgettable day celebrating the freedom of flight.
FROM THE WRIGHT BROTHERS TO THE FLYING CAR REVOLUTION
Ohio has a special place in aviation history as the home of the Wright brothers, whose inventions helped launch the age of powered flight. More than a century later, the Great American Electric Air Race celebrated another extraordinary leap forward in personal aviation.
The sky is no longer the limit.
