New Life Plan Community combines a mission-driven lifestyle, a continuum of care and healthcare benefits designed to provide confidence for the future
ALBANY, NY, UNITED STATES, October 14, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Two Catholic organizations with a shared legacy of compassionate service are bringing a new vision for senior living to New York’s Capital Region. The Providence, a future Life Plan Community developed by Franciscan Ministries, sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago, in collaboration with the Daughters of Charity, is designed to bring together sophisticated living, whole-person wellness and a plan for changing healthcare needs.
Scheduled to open in late 2028, The Providence will feature 159 residences, including Villas, Carriage Homes, Independent Living, Assisted Living and Ancora Memory Care. A vibrant Town Center will offer dining venues, wellness and fitness spaces, lifelong learning opportunities, landscaped outdoor areas and places to gather and connect.
The vision builds on the shared commitment of both organizations to serve people with dignity, compassion and purpose.
Franciscan Ministries traces its roots to 1894, when its Foundress, Mother Mary Theresa Dudzik, established St. Joseph Home in Chicago to care for older adults and others in need. Today, the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago continue to sponsor Franciscan Ministries and guided by its mission to Celebrate Life and Serve with Joy.
The Daughters of Charity bring more than 200 years of service in the United States and more than 55 years in New York’s Capital Region. Their longstanding commitment to compassionate care helped inspire The Providence and continues to shape its future.
“The Providence is not simply about creating beautiful residences,” said Regina Umanskiy, President and CEO of Franciscan Ministries. “It’s about creating a place where people can continue to live with purpose, pursue what matters to them and build meaningful relationships. Together, we have an opportunity to honor the legacy of the Daughters of Charity and the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago while creating something meaningful for generations to come.”
Living Well, With Confidence for Tomorrow
The Providence is being designed for older adults who want to remain active, independent and connected while having a plan for future healthcare needs.
A defining feature is The Providence Life Plan Benefit, which provides residents with priority access to Assisted Living and Ancora Memory Care onsite if their healthcare needs change. Residents will also have exclusive access to short-term care and rehabilitation partners through a local healthcare system.
The benefit is designed to provide financial advantages as well, allowing residents to pay for the care they need when they need it, with generous financial benefits when care becomes necessary.
For residents and families, the approach offers greater confidence in planning for the future without losing sight of the freedom, relationships and experiences that make life meaningful today.
“The Life Plan model recognizes that independence and care go hand in hand,” said Lindsey Lavery, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer for Franciscan Ministries. “At The Providence, we’re bringing lifestyle, wellness and access to future care together in a community designed around how people want to live. Our goal is to give residents greater choice today and confidence about tomorrow.”
A Mission That Comes to Life Every Day
The Providence will introduce Franciscan Ministries’ Living Joyfully philosophy to the Capital Region. Rooted in the mission to Celebrate Life and Serve with Joy, Living Joyfully recognizes that well-being extends beyond physical health to include emotional, intellectual, social, environmental, spiritual and vocational wellness.
At The Providence, that philosophy will inform both the community’s design and the everyday opportunities available to residents – from staying active and pursuing lifelong interests to sharing meals, building friendships, spending time outdoors and participating in meaningful experiences.
“Living Joyfully is about honoring the individual story of every resident and creating an environment where people can continue to discover what brings meaning to their lives,” said Tara Segal, Chief Mission Integration and Pastoral Care Officer for Franciscan Ministries. “At The Providence, that means creating opportunities for wellness, connection, purpose and joy to become part of everyday life.”
Building on a Legacy, Looking to the Future
The Providence reflects years of collaboration among Franciscan Ministries, the Daughters of Charity, Perkins Eastman, GSI, a Transforming Age company, community partners and future residents. The project also reflects a commitment to responsible stewardship and thoughtful integration with the surrounding landscape.
Future residents are actively contributing their perspectives and aspirations through The Providence Founders Club, helping shape the community before it opens.
“The Providence represents what’s possible when two mission-driven organizations bring their histories, experience and shared values together around a common vision,” Lavery said. “We’re creating a community that honors the region’s history while looking confidently toward its future – and one that begins with how people want to live.”
